the dtr

Chris and I lay in Dolores Park on a gorgeous, sun-shiny day this weekend, surrounded by yoga-dancing-hippie-drum circles, hula-hoopers and other sunbathers. He was visiting from Washington, DC and we hadn't seen each other in nearly five years, so as we soaked up the sun, we caught up on our respective lives. He told me about a woman he'd been casually seeing and I asked him, "So, is she your girlfriend?"

"Well," he began, "we haven't had the DTR."

"The what?"

"The 'Define the Relationship' talk."

I had never heard of this brilliant acronym, but apparently it's well-known enough to have its own e-How page.

Now, of course, I can't stop talking about it.
