things i know (this week, anyway) #16

- Asking for what you need or want doesn't make getting it any less meaningful. In fact, the process of articulating it can be as empowering as receiving it.

- Conquering real-life problems is often much easier than conquering those in my vivid and sometimes uncharitable imagination.

- The "one-shoulder-grazing-feather-earring" trend makes you look like you got side-swiped by a parrot.

- Thinking about time in unorthodox ways can be comforting. For example, instead of, "My boyfriend is out of town for the next 3 weeks," try, "My boyfriend is only out of town for the next 3 episodes of True Blood."

- I would rather shell out an extra $8 to have a physical copy of a book than download it onto my iPad. This is for many reasons, but especially because you can't read your iPad in the bathtub.

- I still don't understand "YOLO," "hyphy" or the point of Second Life.

- If you've ever wished an interaction or event had gone differently than it actually did, try writing it as fiction. You'll get the satisfaction of saying what you wanted to say, and you might get a good piece of writing out of it.

- It's good to be able to tell when you're being projected onto.

- One of the biggest professional hurdles afflicting young women (myself included) is feeling undeserving of (and fearing) their success. Eventually, though, a choice presents itself. You can either a) continue to doubt yourself and the validity of your achievements, allowing your internal, afraid-to-take-credit good little girl to call the shots, or b) give that little girl a hug and kindly direct her to the back seat, because the smart, competent, grown-up you is driving, and she takes what's hers.

- It's surprisingly easy to forget to breathe.

Sheer genius! Going to be doing a lot of that in the near future...

Love this post Gabi, so heartfelt. I can relate especially to the last two take-aways. Yes many of us ladies struggle with this. thank you for your honesty/candor.
