why i write recipes

This afternoon, while attempting to follow the most straightforward recipe in the world, I realized why it is that I have chosen to devote a significant portion of my time to writing recipes.

It's not because I am passionate about eating, love writing and want to share my kitchen experiences with others. I mean, those things are all true and they contribute to why I do what I do, but alas, they are not why.

No, the core reason is that I dislike being told what to do so much that if you give me a recipe to follow, I will become so annoyed and resentful that I will, whether consciously or unconsciously, find a way to screw it up. It may still turn out well, but it will not turn out the way you expected it to, because you and this recipe are not the bosses of me, dammit. It's easier, I've found, to just make up the recipes myself.

Mature, right?

Thanks for commenting! I've been following your blog for awhile and liked reading why you write recipes - funny how we all have different reasons for doing what we do...but at the end of the day the reasons are pretty similar!
