things i've learned from online dating

- There are a whole lot of 40-year-old men with a strong interest in dating 18-year-old women.

- More than a few men think it's appropriate to open an email with a comment about the breasts of the woman he is contacting.

- None of it really means anything until you actually go out.

- It's a lot more fun than I expected it to be.

- It's much easier to know you're on a date when you go out with a guy you met through a website specifically for dating, as opposed to someone you met organically. The lack of guesswork perhaps makes things a bit less exciting, but at least everyone can relax about what exactly is going on.

- Apparently, height is subjective.

- It's still unclear to me whether or not it's a good thing to have a large online presence when you're trying to meet people online. (Case in point: who wants to date a girl who blogs about her online dating experience??)

- Despite the above point, it's extremely liberating to just put it all out there and see who it attracts.

- Not enough people know the difference between "your" and "you're."

- An open mind is imperative.

- It's a good way to meet new people, but also, new parts of myself.

Common sense is everything while serfing online dating profiles. You surprised me about breasts and 40 y.o. men. It's trashy.
